Mistakes Beekeepers Make
with Tina Sebestyen
Mistakes are good! It’s how we mere humans learn best. But, they aren’t fun to make. When you can learn from someone else’s mistakes, you become a better beekeeper faster. This fun talk includes a ton of information from beginner mistakes like what made your package of bees abscond to more advanced beekeeper topics like how to keep the bees from killing your $80 queen, when not to buy one, and when to give up. How often have you noticed that the bees don’t read “the book”? Here is your shortcut to understand what program your bees are on, and how to help them do what they need to do.
About Tina: Tina keeps bees in top bar, Langstroth, and long Langstroth hives. She learned beekeeping from wonderful mentors, “old guys”, as well as through mentoring others as the founder of the Four Corners Beekeepers Assoc. She runs 20- 30 colonies, and depending on the year, produces queens, nucs, or honey, and does structural bee removals. She is the past vice president of the Colorado State Beekeepers Association and is the producer and coordinator of the Colorado Master Beekeeper Program. She is a frequent contributor for the American Bee Journal and Bee Culture magazines (along with some bee journals from abroad) from her farm in SW Colorado.
